Cleaning Your Stainless Steel Letterbox

Best Stainless Steel Letterbox

With the rapid development in technology, there have been significant limitations in the number of letters we receive at our residence. Letters used to be one of the only few ways to communicate from anywhere and even though it was a drag, it kept people in touch and still does. While usage of communicating letters has decreased massively, there has been a rise in the letters that you receive from your workplace, the bank, agreements, etc. For easing the process of receiving letters, there are stainless steel letterboxes all over Sydney that are installed outside of the house. These stainless steel letterboxes ensure that the posties of Sydney can swiftly drop the letter without any hassle. However, as it is steel and out in the sun, it needs to be maintained well.

Stainless steel material is known for its resistance to corrosion and rust. While it can tackle them easily, dirt and dust can damage the material. Cleaning once in a while is the best way to tackle it and it’s not even that difficult. It is recommended to clean your stainless steel letterboxes once every 2 months.

All you would need is a soft cloth and some warm water. Dip the cloth in warm water and wipe the letterbox thoroughly inside and outside. When you are done, take another piece of dry cloth and wipe it again so there won’t be water spots visible. Stainless steel has grains or grooves running in a single direction. It is highly recommended that you wipe in the same direction, rather than running opposite it. Running against the grains will lead to scratches.

Alternatively, you can also use dish soap to do some cleaning. Put a couple of drops of soap on the cloth and some warm water with it. Wipe the steel in the same direction as grains on the steel and after you’re done, rinse it thoroughly to prevent spotting and staining. Towel drying, in the end, will finish the process and make your letterbox as clean as new.

With a glass cleaner spray handy in your house, you can also use it to clean the letterbox. You should not spray directly at the steel as it will cause drips and further damage it. What you need to do is spray some on a soft cloth first. Wipe the area in a motion so it can cover all the spots. Follow this with some dry cloth wiping to finish off the process.

There is also an option of mixing water with baking soda to clean the stainless steel. However, baking soda is known to be abrasive and might damage the product. You should ask the manufacturer before applying baking soda. If you want to test it for yourself, you can try wiping with baking soda and water on a small part in the back first and see the results.

Make sure you never use any abrasive cleaning products as they can wear off the material quite easily. Using a scrubbing brush is a huge no because it can cause irreparable damage. While cleaning, ensure that you clean each and every corner for a homogenous finish and no colour differences. With these cleaning tips, you will have no problems worrying about your stainless steel letterboxes.
